These simple yet attractive finished enclosures make it easy to install Bright Kits
over your aquarium. They are much like the DIY Enclosures covered in our Free Tips,
but with a few professional touches. The corners are box-cut and the top slats fit
into grooves in the front, back and sides for added rigidity. All joints are glued,
then nailed. The edges are eased before the first coat of pigmented lacquer is
applied. Then the entire unit is lightly sanded and a second coat of lacquer is
applied. This will provide all the moisture resistance required for their intended
use over a glass top.
There are three holes on the back side of each enclosure. Two of the holes are
3/8" in diameter and will allow you to install two separate power supply cords if you
want to operate your lights on separate timers. If you only want to use one power
supply cord, you can fill one of the 3/8" holes with a plug which is provided (as in
photo). A 1/2" diameter hole will allow you to install a switch which is also
included. Specially manufactured to properly fit the width of the wood in these
enclosures, the push button switch features a button cap and bezel assembly to make the
installation neat and attractive. The switch can control all ballasts
connected to one power supply cord.
Also included with each enclosure are four adhesive backed bumpers to place on the
bottom edge. These bumpers were specially manufactured to the proper size by
3M from a durable, resilient polyurethane polymer formulated for its slip resistance
and non-marring features.
A H Supply's Finished Enclosures come in sizes to fit aquariums with lengths
of 20", 24", 30", 36" or 48". All are wide
enough to hold two rows of lights, and constructed of 1/2" Natural Birch A-2 VC
Plywood. This wood accepts the pigment well, showing an attractive grain, but you
should expect to see imperfections. It IS NOT fine furniture grade, but then these
enclosures are not offered at fine furniture prices. Once again A H Supply
has managed the best price around for a real wood light enclosure. These enclosures are priced from only $29.99
to $49.99 plus shipping.
